How to bet on tennis?

Tennis is a sport played all over the world, and this game is becoming increasingly popular with fans looking to get into betting.

Beginners guide to bet

  • Understand the rules of tennis.
  • How to bet on tennis.
  • Effect of markets on tennis betting.

Tennis betting – The rules of the sport

Before you jump into how a game of tennis is played, let’s begin with the fundamentals: where tennis is played. Tennis is placed on a rectangular court that is divided into two halves by a net across the middle. Each half divided court has two sides, the deuce side (the right) and the ad side (the left). On both sides of the court, there is a service box which runs from the net until just over halfway to the edge of the court (the baseline). Makes it very easy to play.

Now that you got a lay of the land to let’s get to grips with the scoring system – and be warned, it’s a little strange! Each player starts the game with ‘0’ except this isn’t your regular zero. In tennis, when a player scores ‘0’ it’s called ‘love’. Winning one point will take you to 15, a second point to 30, a third to 40, and if a player wins a fourth point then the player will win the game – unless the players were at ‘deuce’ that is. ‘Deuce’ is the term that refers to when the score is 40-40.

How to bet

There are many factors to consider when learning how to bet on tennis. Same as cricket betting, it is important to understand that different players will have different strengths and weaknesses and will be better suited to certain conditions.

Tennis betting – Tournaments and markets

Much the same as when learning to bet on golf it could be helpful to use major tournaments as a starting point before trying to expand your tennis betting knowledge. Tennis has four major “Grand Slams” each year; Australian Open (hard court), French Open (clay), Wimbledon (grass) and the US Open (hard court).

Outright markets, with the Money Line, are rarely the easiest type of market for novice tennis bettors to understand. An Outright market is operated on a tennis tournament and a bookmaker simply offers an odds on individual players to win that tournament.
